Last year I missed out on the Chicago Seminars and at the last minute I had to cancel. I had been looking for an opportunity to meet up with some fellow followers of Award Travel 101 Facebook group. In addition, getting to hear Richard (founder of Award Travel 100) speak can be a wealth of knowledge. Between Richard and Howie who both are technically contractors for Award Wallet now, I learned a bunch and I’ll be sharing with you soon.
So that takes me to Zorkfest. In my words, it’s when you combine Las Vegas lovers, podcasters, and gamblers with those who love to travel on points and miles. I gather this was the genius idea of Michael Trager (Zork Travel.com) and some of his friends. Michael was a great guy who was very friendly and approachable. By the way, I still don’t know what a Zork is and I should have asked Michael.
Before the weekend was even over, I already knew I wanted to come back again next year. The holiday weekend made it expensive even for us points and miles folks, so hopefully they can find a sweet spot not on a holiday weekend. But I am sure that kept some costs down for meeting space too.
The breakdown of the conference included a Cocktail hour welcome reception which was included in the price. That was followed by a dinner which was additional. However, I won a ticket to attend and was completely stoked about this. Getting to spend some time with Richard and Howie of Award Wallet was a learning experience just in listening to their ideas and experiences.
Saturday was a full day of sessions/classes. You could pick the ones you wanted to attend and I had a hard time during some sessions as there was multiple classes I wanted to hear. Overall, as with any conference I found some of the topics and presenters to be amazing and some not so much. But again, overall it was worth every penny especially the connections made.
In the following weeks, I will share my notes and experiences with you from these sessions. Saturday night had some events I chose not to attend but may for future visits.
Here are the sessions I attended:
Sweet Spot Award Redemptions-Presented by Richard Kerr of Award Wallet 101
Transform Your travel, from upgrades to enhanced experiences-By Gilbert Ott of God Save the points
Comp Harvesting, Total Rewards, maximizing comps in a devalued world-By Eric Rosenthal
The LVA way (Las Vegas Advisor)-By Anthony Curtis
Comps at sea, understanding casino marketing and how to attack casino offers-By Craig Shacklett of URcomped.com
Best Secret, British Airways miles for travel in the US and elite VIP status-by Michele Robinson
I bounced in between a couple later sessions to end the day.
Sunday, I spent all morning at the Award Travel 101 boot camp session. 3 plus hours of credit cards, FICO scores, credit information, and redemptions that was a wealth of knowledge.
If you love Vegas and award travel, you would have a great time and increase your knowledge tenfold.
