First off, the fact that I always thought I had to have a seat assigned as convenience. Southwest doesn’t assign you a seat, they assign you a boarding position. You can pay for early check in (about $15) or just check in right at the 24-hour mark to get a good boarding spot. I did this and had A group for both flights. They also assign a number. So, for example if the plane holds 150 people, they would be divided into A 1-50, B 1-50, C 1-50 etc. That later changed when I took a bump but none the less the process works. Its organized, easy to tell for most where you should line up to board. I also love the fact that they hold people accountable. Try and sneak up early, get denied! I love it.
Secondly, as many might know, Southwest does not allow themselves to be searched by all the other sites. This means if you want to check fares you need to go directly to their site and that’s the only place you can check. When I would look, I might often just not take the time. However, let’s face it in today’s world its getting easier. I have their app now and my phone is where I do a lot of searching so I have no excuse.
Finally, I never need to check a bag and I always assumed that’s why people used them a lot. They include two checked bags for free. I was going to use this but I actually ended up not checking a bag because they don’t have a drop spot at Sea-Tac and the line was long. It worked out well for me in the long run after I took a bump, but it is a nice feature.
What I learned after flying southwest is they are now at the top of my list, probably right behind Alaska. I love Alaska and will need some more flights with Southwest to truly see if the romance can remain, but they are awesome.
I found the staff throughout my trip to be friendly, funny, not so stiff and short with customers. I enjoyed the boarding process and even after taking a bump and getting C group, I got a window seat each time. I enjoyed the onboard entertainment which was free! 16 channels of free TV right to my phone or device. For some reason my Kindle wouldn’t work, but phone worked out great. They had other options available but I was able to watch college football and the baseball playoffs why flying. I started looking into their polices and they are amazing. No fees to change your flight? Amazing in today’s world of air travel.
I now have reasons to put them at the top of my search list!
