I recently went on a trip with a group of 5 others and we put the sign up bonus to good use. Uber has a better sign up bonus deal over Lyft, but any savings is a good thing.
Pick one person that has Uber and then figure out who doesn’t have it in your group. Have the same person send their link to the others that don’t have it. Bonuses can vary but for the most part you can easily get a $15 credit for the new user. It can only be used once so don’t use it on a $5 ride. Save it for the more expensive rides or group rides. Then in return the established user also gets a credit. So you can see how this works. A few new users sign up and you have 3 rides with $15 off. Then the established user is building up rides so you have 3 more of $15 off. This can be great on a trip where Uber can be used.
Lyft will advertise up to a $50 bonus for new users, however when we used it, that meant $5 off 10 rides. As the established user, I got a $10 bonus I think so that worked well. Like I said, any discount is good but Uber with the better deal.
The deals vary by city and sometimes they will have specials. Lyft sends me random discounts a lot and I have never received specials from Uber. In addition, you can create new accounts if you do your homework, although the companies are cracking down on those, but there are ways. I am always looking to save a few bucks so this is a great way. If you don’t have a group, utilize your spouse or whoever you might be traveling with.
I utilize this with other sign up referral deals too. Get creative and save some money.
