You will find main line deals which includes hundreds if not thousands of stores. They give you a certain number of points and miles per dollar spent. You will also find some larger one time miles and point deals such as mortgage companies, lenders, grocery shopping delivery services, wine clubs, and cable or cell phone providers.
You can also use this without having to pay shipping fees by utilizing the stores that have pick up in store options. I recently used Home Depot to buy some items for a rental property and simply picked up the items at the store. It was an easy way to spend $50. Carters is another store which this works with using the ship to store option.
My main airlines accounts are Southwest, Alaska, and American. I also have accounts with JetBlue and delta but not many miles in there. JetBlue actually has a shopping link for Amazon I have read but people have had issues actually earning the miles depending on clearing computer cookies and history. I am currently using this to try and top off my American Airlines account. I am sitting at just over 20,000 miles but would love to get to 25,000 so I have a chance at booking a free flight.
As stated they run some nice bonus offers as well. For example, recently they had a deal where if you made three purchases of $50 or more you got 1500 bonus miles. I used Home depot (2 points per dollar) as stated above for one purchase. Then we used Keurig to make a coffee order (2 points per dollar). When Keurig is running a promo, you can come close to Costco prices if you have an account with them. They offer free shipping deals as well and the orders come within a few days usually. For my third one I had my wife hit one of her favorite sites, Target (1 point per dollar). She can spend $50 there without blinking an eye. I have also used the stores available to order gifts and gift cards. Some stores can jump up to 10 points per dollar or more especially around holidays.
I always recommend taking screen shots or pictures of the offer and as it directs you there. I haven’t had any issues yet, but I’m paranoid sometimes. I also highly recommend you read the fine print. I was making a purchase once that excluded a particular item I wanted. I needed it anyway but it cost me the miles and I didn’t realize until after I purchased it. I also save my emails. For example, after the above promo I mentioned I saved the email so I can have it in case my miles aren’t there in 6-8 weeks. Sometimes there can be errors especially in these promos.
So, there you have it, an easy way to earn miles. If you are shopping online anyway why not earn miles for free? Just as I was researching this I saw a nice deal that will get me 1000 miles on a $40 purchase. Just google your airline and shopping together and you will find their page. Good luck!
