I have written a couple times about my new adventure in flying with Southwest.
One of the great perks about Southwest is the ability to lower the price of your trip even after booking. That is not always available with other airlines or companies.
How do you do it?
You keep checking prices which is easy to do with the App. Once you see the price change go to your booking (PS: Always book your Southwest flights in two one way segments: that’s another post in itself but do it). I recently did this and saved $87 off one segment of my flight
Click on the trip you want to change and click manage, then you choose change flight. You then just pick the flight you want (can be the same or different flight). It will show the price difference and ask how you want the amount change refunded. This time it let me get the amount back on my credit card. If not, you can get it back in a flight credit, valid for one year.
When you cancel a flight, you can only get it back in a flight credit which is still a great perk. You have to keep track of your flight credits because you will need the confirmation number to use it in the future so I have done two things to track this.
- I write down all my flight credits in my phone on the notes section.
- I save all my southwest email to one folder so I can easily lookup them up.
So all together, I lowered my trip by $119. I never stop looking to save some money and neither should you, even after booking.
