I quickly noticed that some lots charge different fees and tax you differently. Some of these lots are doing, what I consider to be a "double tax". They are adding in the city tax and airport "access" fee and then calculationg the state sales tax on top of that. Most of the lots appear to be doing what I consider to be correct in taxing you on the base amount of parking and then adding in the city tax and airport fees (which are a fixed rate). I really don't know legally what is the correct way, but many of the lots seem to all charge differently.
The price range? (These include all taxes & fees)
The cheapest I found was $12.29 which was a coupon rate with ShuttlePark2
The middle of the road seemed to be Thrifty at $15.82 on a pre paid rate that requires a deposit ahead of time.
The highest I found was was a pretty close battle between the Valet garage (premium lots) of WallyPark(23.86) and MasterPark(23.49). Keep in mind with these premium garages those are without discounts and I have found that discounts are readily available for both.
MasterPark has coupons in the airlines magazines found on board as well as online coupons and you can earn airmiles with both as well as some other lots such as Thrifty. Thrifty seemed to have the best airmiles earning at about 80 miles per visit (you get 250 after 3 visits). WallyPark has Military, AAA, and Senior discounts. AAA will get you 25% off the rate.
With discounts I got MasterPark down to the self park rate of $21.30 and Wallypark down to $19.22. My initial thoughts? That $12.29 with ShuttlePark2 looking pretty good.
Keep in mind some of these low costs lots also require a 3 day minimum, which eliminates them from contention for business travelers and mileage runners.
And what are you resally getting for valet and the price difference?
Not a whole lot extra and probably not an extra $7.00 worth. I have only parked at WallyPark and MasterPark, but I am going to try out others in the next month and do an updated post. I am curious to see the difference.
My MasterPark & WallyPark trips:
Both Wally and Master offer water and I think Wally offers a free newspaper, although they are not readily offered so I am guessing you need to ask. Both offer valet which consists of meeting you at your car, asking when you will be back, and grabbing any luggage you might have. Then its off to the airport.
My big complaint is that when you return the serivce is what I think to be sub standard for the high price. Your car is parked, not running, not heat on, just sitting there, you pay, and off to your cold vehicle you go. Why can't my car be running with the heater on? Why not just park at a self park so I can walk to my same cold car.
WallyPark kind of made a joke about me coming back the same day. Nothing bad, just joking that it was a short trip. Um, Why is it your business, just take my car was my thought. Masterpark didn't seem to care when I came back. The WallyPark shuttle driver seemd to drive safe and at a reasonable speed. The MasterPark guy, I thought I was gonna fall out of my seat. Both shuttles were quick to the airport though.
Coming back I always treat it the same which is head straight ot the pick up Island. Both shuttles happen to be coming by within 3-5 minutes, if that. Both were quick back to the parking garage.
I don't like the MasterPark tax procedure. I love Wallypark for their social media interaction on Twitter, plus with the 25% AAA discount I would go with WallyPark as of this writing.
With my new travels this year I will try and bring you all the information I can!
