Before I post or promote any deals, I usually due some quick research and it can reveal some interesting facts:
So today I see a deal for a Hawaiian vacation on the island of Kauai
It states you get 5 nights in a 2 bedroom villa (for up to 6 people) for $1443.00. There are other night options available as well.
Well, first I checked Trip Advisor (because thats one of my favorite sites), and it gets good reviews and ranks #3 in that area.
Well, next I pulled up the actual website and tried to book 5 nights to check the savings. This is where we see our first issue.....The resort has offers titled "Construction Special resort view" and warns of possible noise at the resort. Well, now you know why they are probably offering a groupon. Now I will say the resort view is the construction special and the groupon is for partial ocean view but still some warning signs.
To book through the resort the base price price shows $1845 plus another $351 in taxes and "resort fees" makes the total $2196. And they have a deal at that price that includes a car rental too! The groupon price does not include these taxes and such so that make the Groupon total about $1790.
So you are saving about $400 (maybe less if you figure the resort throws in a car on some of their deals) but you know the resort has construction going on, there is "a lot" of fine print and black out dates with this deal.
So for many saving $400 is worth the hassel of all the possible constrcution noise and issues, plus being limited on your days. Its a decison you have to make. And for me, it's not worth it and you're not right on the beach either. I also understand we also have different ideas of what we like.
Groupon advertises the savings as $592 so they arent too far off on this one but always double check what you are seeing,
